The twin apartment buildings stand majestically in the midst of the city of Riyadh. The buildings have become a landmark due to how recognisable and relatable they are. The fusion between heritage and architecture is a challenging design process where the architect is obliged to respectfully adapt to culture, heritage and the functionality of the building. A state of the art building method and technology were adapted to local residential requirements whilst maintaining the recognisable architectural aesthetic of the western region, HIJAZ and the central region, NAJD. The juxtaposition of the two national heritage styles is a message to the community to say “We are rich in our cultural diversity but united we stand as a nation”.
